So I've finally succumbed and learned to knit. I don't really like it so much and it is SLOW (though I'm getting faster), but it is a technique I probably should have learned at some point...so here's my first hat.

It is a bit big and a bit wonky with missing stitches, but it is a hat!

Several months of work are finally paying off:

Two rows of carrots doing splendidly.

Strawberries - a last minute addition to the garden that I wish I'd gotten into earlier. They're doing okay, but I'm not sure.

Tomatoes are doing amazing, I just hope they turn so I don't end up with a glut of green hard rocks to play with.

The french beans have been hit with a blight of spider (?) mites. A bit of insecticide has stemmed the tide and they're starting to recover, but only just.

My runner beans have been struggling, but are finally bearing fruit.

Corn! Growing just fine and fruiting earlier than expected, though I was hoping for some taller plants to be honest.

My four Courgette/Zucchini plants are overwhelming me. They grow fast and furiously. My poor spinach and beans had to build fences to keep the courgette menace out of their personal space.

Spinach - quick growing and super plentiful. I've been eating this like crazy in the past few weeks (and it keeps coming!).

Two rows of various lettuces give me a nice salad every few days.

And my windowsill garden:

Hot peppers are starting to show through. If every flower turns into a pepper I'm SCREWED.

Cherry tomatoes are starting to come up nicely. This is the first one to turn red, but I've got another 40 or so just on this plant. I can't wait!

probably not the most seaworthy of vehicles, but it handles extinct volcano(e)s perfectly! to be fair, chris did the majority of the engineering, but i did the dragon head bit (anyone know what that is called?) and the sail. we all made it down sans injury. no blood = laaaaame.

this is the first hat i ever made. it took me a good 2 months. i nearly gave up on crochet all together it was so difficult. so much counting of stitches and keeping track of everything. i eventually (i think almost a year later) divised my own method to remove counting thusly beginning a flurry of wool & hooks and eventually leading to this website.

New Hat, New Pattern

i created this new pattern once i learned this modified double crochet. it all went well, but the back clearly shows where each round joins up. gotta work on that, but i REALLY like the style here. happy.

lovely dutch model sophie van der horst is double fisting while showing my first attempt at a double layered hat. i tried to double up the warmth of this thing by crocheting a normal hat then using the loops on the inside to create a 2nd layer on the inside. it worked okay...i guess...as a stand alone hat it is cool, but i didn't really get the effect i was looking for...whatever...
